I love shooting families at all stages of their lives – be that they are just expecting and mom has a beautiful belly to showcase, they have young, energetic kids or their kids are a little older. The latter was the case for this family that I had the pleasure of capturing last fall. Sometimes scheduling family portraits can be a bit tricky to get a time that works for everyone. That only gets harder when the kids also have their own jobs. We managed to get a date and time that would work for this wonderful family, though. Shooting with natural light in the middle of the day can pose some difficulties for a photographer. However, through skillful use of shade, shadow and my trusty reflector, we got busy to capturing some wonderful memories of this family.
The bond between this beautiful Argentinian mother and her graduating senior son is palpable. You can tell not only is there immense love between them, there is also a lovely friendship and deep mutual respect.
The original remit was to have family portraits taken for use in holiday greeting cards – I was subsequebtly delighted to hear that their cards were a huge hit this year! Once we began shooting, though, we were having entirely too much fun to call it quits after getting those card shots.
Yes, I had the boys climb a tree! The family has jokingly called that shot their album cover! Should you ever hear of a musical release from them, you are now in the know where the cover shot originated. My, what handsome boys in this family! I have no doubt they have a very active social life!
What can I say about these two? Well, they have an adorable love story and they make this blended family work amazingly. This was their first portrait session since their wedding which took place on a beautiful Jamaican beach.
Of course, there is a story behind the pointing – this is Luke and Avi’s “thing”. They have a series of pictures over the years with them pointing to each other. I was honored to be able to add to their series. What a beautiful bond they have – intense brotherly and protective love. Luke is off to college this year and about to embark on his college adventure. I wish you all the best, Luke – great success, great fun and lots of life lessons!
It is heart-warming to see two people so clearly in love and completely besotted with each other. You guys show us the rest just how to do it!
This was such a wonderful session and we had such a great time designing a portrait wall for their home and picking prints to frame. I am looking forward to capturing more memories this summer with their extended family when they visit. I can’t wait to work you again. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with this image. It says it all….
